Obituary of Uchechi Enyinna Umunna

Uchechi Umunna, beloved husband of Glory (nee Chuku) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at the age of 46 years.
Uchechi was born in Owerri, Nigeria, on October 22, 1978. He immigrated permanently with his family to Calgary, AB, in 2017, and continued to work out of country until 2023.
Uchechi graduated from the Federal University of Technology in Owerri, Nigeria, with a distinction in civil engineering. He then advanced his studies with an MSc in Civil Engineering from Herriot-Watt University, Scotland, with distinction. Uchechi went on to obtain another MSc in Project Management from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, and finally an MBA from Cranfield University, UK. He was an exceptionally brilliant man.
Uchechi married Glory in 2011, and together they have two children.
He worked for the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), where he enjoyed a fruitful career and remained an asset to the company for more than nineteen years until his resignation. He was also a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). He remained a qualified project manager with Yukon Energy Corporation until the time of his passing. Uchechi accomplished much throughout his life and inspired everyone around him to do the same.
Uchechi loved spending time with family and friends. He particularly enjoyed watching Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and soccer. He also enjoyed reading, knowledge sharing, watching movies, playing video games occasionally, and exercising regularly.
Uchechi’s most memorable vacation was in August 2022, when he traveled with his wife and children around Italy.
Uchechi frequently admonished with the following words, “You have to push yourself”, “Stay focused”, “Why put off till tomorrow what you can do today?”, and “You need to plan for your future.”
He will be most remembered for his brilliance, kindness, generosity, foresight, tidiness, humor, and loyalty. Months before his passing, Uchechi grew in his Christian faith and relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Besides his loving wife Glory, Uchechi is survived by his two daughters, Christine and Zoe.
Uchechi is also survived by his father Dr. James Umunna, his two brothers, Chizom and Emeka Umunna; four sisters, Kelechi Umunna, Chinwe Okpoechi, Nwanyieze Ohanenye, and Onyih Odunze; many brothers and sisters-in-law residing in the US, UK, and Nigeria; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Rocky View Garden of Peace Cemetery (243208 Garden Road, Calgary, AB).
Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Umunna’s service streamed live (see link below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
