November 6, 2024 Strathmore, Alberta

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, niece, cousin, colleague, and friend Geraldine Rebecca Red Gun (Otaksski) on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at the age of 64 years.

Rebecca was born on August 26, 1960, in Siksika, AB, to the late John and Hilda Red Gun.

In her younger years, Rebecca was very athletic and participated in basketball, baseball, curling, and track and field. She also entered the “Miss Siksika” pageant and won ‘Miss Congeniality.’ She exemplified her title through her ability to build strong relationships.

Rebecca attended Arrowwood and Drumheller Schools and the University of Calgary. She was employed with the Siksika Nation Administration for numerous years, working in the Employment and Training, Justice, Public Works, and Recreation departments. At the time of her passing, she was employed with Siksika Treasury Administration as a senior accountant and was working towards her CAFM (Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager); her passion was in finance.

Rebecca loved to read. She also loved playing bingo or slots at the Grey Eagle Casino, where she made many friends. She was known as Hi5 Reba.

She was very knowledgeable about the Holy Bible and often used scriptures when sharing with her family and friends.

Rebecca loved her grandchildren and cherished spending time with them. She did a lot for her grandson Zachary, supporting him as he faced and overcame health barriers. She ensured he attended his appointments in Toronto, often covering expenses from her own pocket and conducting fundraising. She also played a significant role in raising some of her grandchildren.
