Obituary of Marylin Joyce Sulatycky
September 27, 1940 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
November 11, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Marylin Joyce Sulatycky, the much-loved wife of the Honourable Allen Sulatycky, retired Associate Chief Justice of the Court of Queen’s (King’s) Bench of Alberta, and precious mother of Warren, Robert, Annemarie, and Donald, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024, at Southwood Care Centre, where she spent the last five happy days of her earthly journey.
Marylin was born September 27, 1940, in Saskatoon, SK, and was adopted a few days later by Irvin and Evelyn Perkins, who soon moved to Calgary, AB. Here, Marylin rejoiced in a happy childhood going to elementary school at St. Joseph. She finished high school in North Battleford, SK, where her mother moved following her husband’s passing. Marylin and Allen met in 1959, at the University of Saskatchewan, married in 1962, and began a love which will continue into eternity.
They lived in Edmonton, AB, Whitecourt, AB, and Ottawa, ON, but Marylin was happiest when they moved to Calgary in 1981, where they have remained since. Marylin enjoyed and was proficient in the art of every medium, and she relished searching out antiques and collectibles. She delighted in all of God’s creations, from the biggest elephant to the tiniest fossil, and if she could carry it, she collected it.
A special moment late in Marylin’s life was when she connected with Paul Malach and Stella Steves, the only survivors of eleven siblings of her biological mother, Pauline Malach, all now deceased, but to Marylin’s joy, there are many Malach offspring in her family. Marylin is also survived by her adoptive sister Sue Day (Martin) and their children, and sister-in-law Joyce Sulatycky and her children. Marylin was predeceased by her mother Pauline Malach, parents, Irvin and Evelyn Perkins; and by her brother-in-law Victor Sulatycky.
Joining Allen, Warren, Robert, Annemarie, Donald, and other family in mourning will be Marylin’s extraordinary and devoted caregiver and companion, Valerie Bruce.
