Obituary of Darcy Trevor Mathias

June 17, 1965 – Calgary, Alberta

November 12, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Darcy Mathias of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at the age of 59 years.

Born in Calgary, AB, on June 17, 1965, Darcy graduated from Western Canada High School and went on to become an electrician. He loved being an electrician because it allowed him to help friends, family, or anyone else with their electrical projects. Darcy was always there for people, never asking for anything in return, and was always willing to open his home to friends who needed a place to stay—whether for a night, a week, a month, or even a year.

He loved spending time with friends and family having a meal, sharing a coffee, playing crib, or competing in his pool league. However, his favourite time was spent with his nieces and nephews. Nothing gave him more joy than playfully teasing them or being present for one of their activities. He even made time to watch his niece’s hockey games online because he could not attend in person.

Darcy looked forward to spending time in Saskatchewan with his lifelong friends, Dave Webster and Cheryl Kowerchuk-Webster along with their children, Madison Liebaert, Tiegan Kowerchuk-Webster, and Adam Webster. Their family was a constant presence in his life, and he loved them dearly.  Ken Thomas was another special and loyal friend, who selflessly looked out for Darcy and made sure that he had rides to pool, golf, or anything else.

Darcy is survived by his loving mother Sharon Mathias of Calgary, his older sister Deb Mathias of Calgary, his younger brother Trevor Mathias of Glenview, IL, and his nieces and nephews, Connor Mathias of Glenview, IL, Henry Ramsay-Mathias of Calgary, Oliver Ramsay-Mathias of Calgary, Sophie Ramsay-Mathias of Calgary, Grace Mathias of Glenview, IL, and Anna Mathias of Glenview, IL.

Darcy was predeceased by his father Trevor Jerome Mathias.

Darcy was a gentle, loving man who did the best he could while battling epilepsy.  He will be greatly missed by his family, but his caring and peaceful nature will live on in those who knew him.
