Obituary of Ronald Vincent Harbidge
December 5, 1926 – Calgary, Alberta
November 14, 2024 – Airdrie, Alberta
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our dad, Ron Harbidge. He passed away Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the age of 97 years.
Ron grew up in Calgary, AB, until he joined the Navy in Esquimalt, BC; serving under Her Majesty's Royal Canadian Navy from 1945 to 1965 and sailed throughout the world during his military career. At the time of his retirement Chief Petty Officer Ronald V. Harbidge was bandmaster of the HMCS Shearwater Band in Nova Scotia.
Ron married the love of his life, Eva Harbidge. They were married for 70 years until his beloved Eva passed away in 2018. They lived in Victoria, BC, Nova Scotia, and Calgary, AB from 1965 to 2019. In 2019 Ron moved to Airdrie Assisted Living.
Ron will be sadly missed by his brother Vic (Vi) Harbidge; brother-in-law Bill McAmmond; his six children, Larry (Sharon) Harbidge, Gloria (Duane) Hurrell, John (Trudy) Harbidge, JoAnn Pogue, Teresa (Mario Pippi) Reeves, Rodney (Sarah) Harbidge; fourteen grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Dad’s life was a testament to strength, resilience, and an unwavering love for family. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and devotion that will forever be cherished.
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Airdrie, 300 Towerlane Drive, Airdrie, AB) on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery (3219 – 4th Street NW, Calgary, AB).
