Obituary of Colleen Barbara Belyea
June 17, 1953 – Oakville, Ontario
November 14, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Colleen Belyea (nee Sunley), beloved wife of Jim Belyea, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the age of 71 years, due to lung illness.
Colleen grew up in London, ON, with her parents and sister Jennifer and attended Fanshawe College.
Colleen was always curious, so she had a few different jobs. She would say that working as an RNA at the Hospital for Sick Children was her favourite. She was a secretary at various places and a stay-at-home mom. A dream Colleen has always had was to have her own family, though it didn’t come easily. Every year on their adoption day I would ask them “Who made me the happiest Mommie in the world?”
Colleen accepted Jesus as her Savior in her thirties, and her faith, family, and friends are what allowed her to persevere through many health, family, and emotional struggles.
She was blessed to have the most loving family with her devoted husband Jim of 36 years, and children, Travis of Vancouver (Aya and Ranger); and Alexis and Jordan of Regina (James, Grayson, and baby Nora). There was so much excitement when Colleen and her sister were united with her brother Bob and his wife Wendy, and adult children, Carolyn and Scott from Adelaide, Australia, in the mid-‘80s; and her sister’s children in Toronto, and special nieces, Hannah, Keisha, and Wynter. She was predeceased by all her extended family when she was much younger.
Colleen would like to thank her loving and helpful friends, including but not limited to, Dr. Ed and Debbie Sands, Donna Kuzak, and the Book Club (Debbie Palsky, Lorraine Storm, and Heather Toothe).
If friends so desire, memorial donations will be gratefully accepted at the Bronchiectasis Clinic, University of Calgary Hospital. www.engage.ucalgary.ca/csmsupport. If you make the donation online, please ensure to put in a memo “Dr. Christina Thornton – Bronchiectasis Clinic Research” so we can make sure the donation goes directly to the research fund.
The family wishes to extend warm thanks to Dr. Richard Ward, Dr. Steven Field and Doreen, and Dr. Christina Thornton and Haley at Chateau Foothills Hospital and Spa, and to all the staff and volunteers at Dulcina Hospice.
