Obituary of John Barry Jenkins

November 10, 1943 – Orangeville, Ontario

November 14, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

John Jenkins, beloved husband of Adrienne Jenkins (nee Shymansky) of Cochrane, AB, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the age of 81 years.

John was born in Orangeville, ON, on November 10, 1943. He married his loving wife, Adrienne, in September of 1968, and together they made their home in Burlington, ON. In 1986, they made the bold decision to move their young family to Calgary, AB. After decades of hard work and dedication to his career, John and Adrienne retired to Cochrane, AB.

A graduate of the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering, John was a proud and accomplished Professional Engineer. He was a lifetime member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). John’s professional career was marked by significant contributions to the industry, but it was his roles as a father and grandfather that brought him the greatest pride.

In his spare time, John enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He had a passion for fishing and golfing, and he found joy in woodworking, where he spent many hours creating beautiful pieces with his hands. His dedication to his hobbies reflected his strong work ethic and creativity.

John will be deeply missed by his family: his wife Adrienne, daughter Robin (Marcus) Steptoe, his sons, Michael (Maria) Jenkins and Shane (Agnes) Jenkins; his grandchildren, Jesse, Sidney, Isaac, and Jasmine; his sister Karen (Thom) Canivet, his nephew Kristoffer, his niece Heidi, as well as numerous cousins and friends. John was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Louisa Jenkins.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Parish (10 River Heights Drive, Cochrane, AB) on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
