Obituary of Josephine Anita Bell

December 12, 1946 – Manville, Alberta

November 19, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Joanne Bell, beloved wife of Fred Bell of Calgary, AB, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at the age of 77 years.

Joanne was born in Manville, AB, on December 12, 1946, and moved with her family to Calgary, AB, in 1956. Joanne graduated from Western Canada High School in 1964, where she excelled in sewing, competed in Singer Style Maker contests, and earned a Certificate of Proficiency in Business Education.

Joanne and Fred were engaged on her twenty-second birthday and were married on July 5, 1969, in Calgary, AB. They initially lived in Canmore, AB, where their daughter Tracey was born, and then Vegreville, AB, where Tanya was born. They eventually settled in Calgary, where Tyler was born, completing their family.

In the early days, Joanne was a stay-at-home mom, eventually returning to the workplace when the kids were older.  She earned an Accounting Technician Diploma in 1989 and went on to work at the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board, where she worked with many wonderful colleagues.  After the AEUB, Joanne went on to work at various Oil and Gas companies as an Operations Clerk until her retirement in 2015.

Joanne and Fred loved their dogs and had many throughout their lives. All of them were adopted rescues, and the dogs lived a life of joy and comfort with Joanne and Fred. Misty is missing Joanne and her cuddles.

Joanne will be remembered for her no-nonsense approach to life and her dedication to her family. She contributed many volunteer hours to teams and schools and was present for her kids growing up. Her greatest joy in life was her seven grandkids.

Besides her loving husband, Fred, Joanne is survived by her children and their families, Tracey and Mark Mazur of Regina, SK, and their children, Owen and Zoey; Tanya Bell and Mark Chovan of Saskatoon, SK, and their children, Grady, Sadie and Ruby; Tyler Bell and Shannon Bender of Lake Country, BC, and their children, Nixie and Tatum.

Joanne’s life will be celebrated with family at a later date.
