Condolences
Wishing much love and strength to all of Steele's family and friends at this difficult time. Steele was one of my first and best customers, tracking me down through at least three or four different companies to provide care for his trees and landscape. A kind and interesting man, with a deep love for nature and places of green, I will always remember his loyalty, warmth, and firm handshake. Rest in peace.
I just found out about Steele‘s passing. My deepest condolences to you and your family Judi. I am deeply saddened.
I was the Executive Director at Alberta Manor Foundation for Youth when I recruited Steele to volunteer. Steele was a very “big” character and I was, to say the least, a rookie in the role and was initially nervous of such a foreboding character. From where I was sitting you were an extremely important person. I soon found out that you were indeed an extremely renowned man but also an extremely beautiful man who embraced everyone even a Rookie Executive Director who didn’t really know what she was doing at the time. Thank you Steele for everything you did to help my career along and for your guidance as one of our mentors and later as a board Director. You left a lasting impression on me and helped me out tremendously. Rest in peace, dear friend.
PS I remember you telling me you joined a writing group and the lead into the story was… you are the last person on earth and you hear someone scratching the window. …. I always found that intriguing. I hope you have fun scratching windows in heaven, Steele.
Please feel free to contact me anytime Judi. RIP. Deirdre Halferty.
I met Steele in 1999 through the Alberta Mentor Foundation for Youth program and we hit it off since the get go. I was his first protege and he was my first and only friend at that time in Canada.
We remained friends for 25 years and shared countless laughs, great conversations and fun times.
Steele was always exceedingly generous with his time, never hesitated when I needed any help and gave me incredibly valuable advice over the years.
He helped me land my first job, and then assisted me with starting a rewarding career in the automotive field. He was always there to guide me through uncertain times. Whether I needed relationship advice, help with a work related situation, or just needed someone to talk to, Steele was only a phone call away.
We shared a passion for mystery novels and action movies, and never missed a release of a Mission Impossible or James Bond sequel at the theatres. He taught me that the only proper way to order a steak was blue rare (not well-done like I used to do it when we met), and we had a laugh about it when we last met for lunch in May.
Steele, I will never forget your kindness, helpfulness and generosity. You will remain in my heart for the rest of my life.
With love,
Viktor
I will miss my Skiathos friend. So many beautiful memories on a beautiful island have been engraved on my heart. Judy, my thoughts are with you and your family at this time. A wonderful larger than life guy, that’s who Steele was.
I feel very fortunate to have known Steele for many years, I admired his love for his family, his books and Greece. He has introduced me to many authors, restaurants and "not to be missed " shows and films'
Steele was such a busy man and yet always had time to make us feel special. I loved his optimism and he often told me how lucky we are to live in Canada.
He truly was a wonderful man and I will miss him very much. My heart goes out to Judy and all of Steeles' family, his death is a huge loss for everybody.

I first met Steele at 17 when he became my mentor, guiding me through high school and life‘s challenges. Over the years, he became a father figure to me—someone I deeply loved, admired and respected. Steele’s compassion and openness to people from all backgrounds taught me the value of kindness, acceptance, and integrity. His lessons will stay with me always, and I will do my best to honour his memory. My heartfelt condolences to the Curry family for their loss. Steele will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Steele and Judy have blessed The Salvation Army with their exceptional philanthropy for nearly 40 years. The impact of these generous donations has benefitted thousands of vulnerable people. Steele's mentorship of youth throughout the years has produced leaders in our community through his guidance and encouragement.
Steele had immense integrity and cared deeply for our community. His powerful drive to improve our world has elevated the lives of so many. The Salvation Army shares the sorrow of this loss of such a man of principle. He will be deeply missed and we pray for his family in their time of grief and loss.
Surely Steele is resting in God's tender embrace after a lifetime of diligent work and love for others.

Brooke and I were incredibly saddened to hear about Steele's passing. He was indeed larger than life. Steele was always looking for the positives in life and embodied the definition of true gentleman and citizen of the world. His charitable efforts were truly exceptional and he touched so many. We will cherish the time spent discussing the latest mystery novels, business endeavours, restaurants and of course updates on the western front! He will be sorely missed but never forgotten. You have our deepest sympathies and condolences.
