Obituary of John Bohach
July 6, 1939 – Goodeve, Saskatchewan
November 26, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
John Bohach of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the age of 85 years.
John was born in Goodeve, SK, on July 6, 1939, the eldest son of William and Mary Bohach. He grew up in this small rural town with his two younger brothers, Marion and Raymond, and older sister Lilian. John met his wife, then Joyce Dorish, when he was 19. They were next-door neighbours in Goodeve. They were married in 1964 and moved to Calgary, AB, where John was employed with the Bank of Nova Scotia as a loan officer. The new family moved frequently in their early years as John was transferred from town to town. While living in Fort McMurray, AB, and working as a bank manager, John and Joyce had their first and only child, Lisa, in 1969.
The family moved to Camrose, AB, in 1974, where John began working for Alberta Agriculture and worked for the rest of his career in internal audit. John retired at the age of 60 and immediately found a part-time job at a woodworking company. In 2013, John and Joyce moved to Calgary, AB, to be closer to their daughter and son-in-law for their golden years.
John loved spending time with his family; camping, fishing, gardening, and travelling to warmer climates. He had a passion for woodworking and could often be found in his workshop, "butchering wood", as he liked to call it. He loved cars and delighted in buying a new vehicle, or even just kicking tires at the sales lot. John enjoyed food and a good rum and coke, especially enjoying Sunday family dinners. John was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus and was active in the Roman Catholic Church.
Besides his loving wife, Joyce, John is survived by his daughter Lisa Bohach, and son-in-law Todd Ashton. John is also survived by his nephews, Jeff Bohach, Jamie Bohach, Peter Bohach, Rob Dorish, Steven Dorish, and Jason Dorish; nieces, Christine Bohach and Kim Dorish; sisters-in-law, Irene Bohach, Elaine Dorish, and Irene Dorish; brother-in-law Danny Dorish, and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
