“Wiyaga Thkan Jr.” (White Eagle Feather)

December 19, 1939 - Mînî Thnî Rabbit Lake, Alberta

November 27, 2024 - Mînî Thnî, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, cousin, uncle, and friend.

Lou peacefully went home to be with the creator, to join and reunite with our awaiting loved ones at the age of 84 years. He will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul, always willing to help anyone he encountered.

His legacy and achievements are abundant, with too many to mention. Lou was a residential school survivor and rancher, who showed both horsemanship and craftsmanship while living life to the fullest. Throughout his life, he enjoyed and participated in community events such as two-step dance, pow-wow, hockey, rodeo, and family gatherings. His family and grandchildren were important to him. As a follower of Jesus Christ, Lou was a Christian cowboy and respected the Stoney traditional and cultural values.

Lou is survived by his children, Tyson (Jennifer), Conrad, Sanders (Alice), Aaron (Marietta), and Tanya, his only daughter; grandchildren, Tristan, Keegan, Nakoda, Shaiden, and Morningstar (Doug); adopted children, Cassandra, Dennis, and Calvin; sisters, Lorna Bearspaw and Rosemary Smith; half-sisters, Delphine and Lenora Rider; stepmother Gwen Rider, brother-in-law Randy Twoyoungmen (Jackie, Trudy, and Tyrone), first cousins, Lawrence Crawler, Charlie Rabbit, Helmer Twoyoungmen, Ollie Benjamin (Lainey), Elliot Benjamin (Maureen), Pauline Twoyoungmen (J.R), Irene Crawler, Eva Benjamin, and Mina Benjamin; nephews and nieces, Crayton Fox (Geraldine), Ronnie Bearspaw, Phelan Bearspaw, David Jr. Bearspaw (Laden), and Lewis Crawler.

Lou was predeceased by the mother of his children, Mary Twoyoungmen, his father Lou Crawler Sr., mother Sarah Crawler (Beaver), eldest sister Irene Crawler Sr., twin brother Frank Crawler, half-siblings, Chester, Clarence, and Patricia Rider; nephew Cordy Crawler, grandson Ty Crawler, uncle Jacob Crawler, aunties, Alma and Annie Crawler (Soldier); cousins, Bertha Crawler, Jennifer Crawler, Martha Crawler, Deanna Crawler, Angeline Crawler, Georgina Sr. Crawler, Gilbert Crawler, Bud Crawler, Ferlin Crawler, Woodrow Soldier, and Isiah Crawler.

We apologize if we may have missed anyone. He has extended relatives too many to mention: Chiniquay, Mark, Twoyoungmen, Fox, and Beaver.

We would like to thank nurse Stephanie and the staff of Morley Health Centre for the care they provided.
