Obituary of Janet Elizabeth McLaughlin

October 31, 1953 – Montreal, Quebec

November 27, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Janet McLaughlin (nee McLean), best friend and wife of Peter McLaughlin, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at the age of 71 years.

Born on October 31, 1953, in Montreal, QC, Janet moved to Calgary, AB, in 1975 and married Peter in 1980. They met while working at Deer Lodge in Lake Louise, AB, and will always hold all those friends close in their memory.

Janet will be remembered for her sharp sense of humour and for always being the one to help and comfort others. She spent much of her life as a dedicated caregiver, first to her children and then to her mother Mary (Gran). Janet made her home a safe and welcoming place for her children’s friends and partners and was a steadfast supporter of the community. She contributed her time and efforts to the Marlborough Pre-School, Chris Akkerman Elementary School, and volunteered for virtually every program at the Marlborough Community Center.

Besides her loving husband Peter, Janet is survived by three sons, Christopher, Richard, and Douglas, and their partners, all of Calgary, AB. She is also survived by five beloved grandchildren, Everleigh (daughter of Chris), Conlan and Eamonn (sons of Richard), and Elanor and Teague (children of Doug).

Janet is also survived by her brothers, Richard of Banff, AB, and John of New Brunswick, her sister and best friend, Linda of Calgary, AB, sisters, Marilyn and Susan of Montreal, QC, and Mary of Sidney, BC, and their families, as well as many extended family members and friends.

Janet was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Mary, and her brother Alex.

The family will be holding a small private remembrance. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to any children's charity. They would like to thank the staff at Foothills Medical Centre.
