Obituary of Blair Joseph Schweitzer

April 15, 1954 – Ponoka, Alberta

November 28, 2024 – Cochrane, Alberta

Blair Schweitzer, beloved husband of the late Wendy Joy Plomp, of Cochrane, AB, tragically lost his battle with mental health and passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the age of 70 years.

Born on April 15, 1954, in Ponoka, AB, Blair lived in various parts of Alberta and British Columbia before settling in Calgary, AB. A talented athlete, he spent many years playing hockey and lacrosse across the region. Blair graduated from Lord Beaverbrook High School and later earned his welding certification at SAIT. He began his professional journey as a welder and went on to establish a distinguished career as a pipeline and facilities inspector. For more than two decades, Blair brought his expertise to the oil and gas industry, where his deep knowledge and experience will be greatly missed by his colleagues.

Blair was most proud of his sons and their accomplishments. He cherished time spent with his grandchildren, embracing his love for the outdoors through hiking, camping, and photography. He found immense joy in travelling, especially to Hawaii, and was always ready to engage in meaningful conversations with anyone who crossed his path.

Blair will be fondly remembered for his welcoming nature, his willingness to help others and his knack for storytelling. His infectious, one-of-a-kind laugh could light up any room and will forever echo in the memories of those who knew him. His family will treasure his love, humour, and infamous “Dad jokes”.

Blair is survived by his two sons, Joey (Tara) of Calgary, AB, and Chance of Cochrane, AB; his four grandchildren, Beckett, Lincoln, Boston, and Lennon; his brother and sister-in-law, Trevor and Ann-Marie of Australia; and his sisters, Debbie Schweitzer and K. Schweitzer.

He was predeceased by his wife Wendy Plomp, his parents, Della and Godfred Schweitzer; and his sister, Rae Schweitzer.

Blair’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to his close friends, family, and the many colleagues whose connections meant so much to him.
