Obituary of Ingeborg Neubauer
July 4, 1930 - Vienna, Austria
November 29, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta
Ingeborg (Inge) Neubauer of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the age of 94 years. Born in Vienna, Austria, on July 4, 1930, she immigrated to Canada in 1956 to join her brother, Helmut Muhlberger (1931-2019), in Calgary, AB. While she embraced her new life in Canada, Inge always remained connected to her Viennese roots, cherishing good music, delicious food, and fine wine.
Inge married Erwin Neubauer (1928-2009) in Calgary in 1961. She is survived by her children, Stephen (Donna) Neubauer and Mona Lisa (Jon) James. Above all, Inge took immense pride in being an extraordinary Oma to her four grandchildren: Breanna and Nikko Neubauer, and Logan and Aiden James. Her family had the chance to say their final “Auf Wiedersehen” to their beloved mother and Oma on the day she passed.
An avid reader, Inge particularly enjoyed biographies and was a devoted follower of the Calgary Herald for many years. She was also a talented cook, known for preparing traditional Austrian dishes like schnitzel, knödel (dumplings), goulash, and soup. Inge and Erwin shared a love for travel, with Mexico being her favourite destination, where she revelled in the warmth of the sun, the sand between her toes, and the ocean's breeze.
Ironically, Inge passed away on Black Friday. Those who knew and loved her will fondly remember her affection for the colour black—evident in everything from her jet-black hair and poodles to her wardrobe, car, and home décor.
While Inge didn’t quite reach her goal of living to 100, her 94 years were a remarkable testament to a life well-lived.
