Obituary of Arthur Engel

January 30, 1939 – Kloestitz, Romania

November 30, 2024 – Cochrane, Alberta

Arthur Engel, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the age of 85 years. Good-bye to my comrade, partner, and friend of 38 years, from Gertrud Heinermann of Cochrane, Alberta, Canada.

Arthur was born in Romania on January 30, 1939. He moved to Canada in 1952. In 1959 Arthur moved to Kansas City, Kansas and returned with his family to Canada in 1970.

Arthur’s hobbies were playing the accordion which made him happy to have the opportunity to entertain others. He was also a member of the German Shooting Club, DIANER, and held the ranks of Hunter’s King in 1988 and King in 1998. Arthur also enjoyed hunting, fishing, well witching, cattle wrangling, and playing soccer until the age of 65. Arthur never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone.

Arthur was a carpenter, building many houses, and he was also involved in building the Saddledome, the AGT Building and the Calgary Airport.

Besides his loving partner, Gertrud Heinermann, of 38 years, Arthur is survived by his son Ziggy and daughter Angela. Gertrud and Arthur shared numerous children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews from all over Canada.

Arthur was predeceased by his mother Emma, his father Jackob, and his two siblings, Ida and Emiel.

A picnic will be planned in the spring with Arthur’s family and close friends to release Arthur’s cremated remains.

We would like to thank Roy and Judy Copithorne as they have been more than friends, they are family. We would also like to thank all the folks at Bethany Care Society for Arthur’s care and making his stay comfortable until his passing.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Arthur’s family here.
