Obituary of Fraser Kenneth Head

June 5, 1944 – Calgary, Alberta

December 1, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Fraser Kenneth Head of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at the age of 80 years.

Fraser married Nora Hounslow on April 5, 1969, and together they raised two children. After their marriage, he graduated from university and completed his BSC with honours and a perfect 4.0 grade point average. He enjoyed teaching and eventually became the principal of both Sunnyside and Guy Weadick elementary schools.

He had a passion for science and was active with the Calgary Youth Science Fair and the Canada-Wide Fair for over forty years. After his retirement, he became more active with St. James Anglican Church. He also spent time with the Stampede City Radio Control Model Club, where he enjoyed flying remote-controlled planes.

He spent many memorable years with his family at the cabin he built on Shuswap Lake at Seymour Arm. For over forty years, he watched first his children, and then his grandchildren, grow up and spend many summers there.

Fraser accomplished much in his life and was particularly proud of the five years he rode his bike in the Great Cycle Challenge, which helped raise money and awareness to fight children’s cancer.

Besides his loving wife Nora, Fraser is survived by his son Cory of Calgary, AB, and his three grandchildren, Cole and Seanna Muskego of Cold Lake, First Nation, and Melanie Fisher of Edmonton, AB; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Fraser was predeceased by his daughter Jody, his parents, Ken and Margaret Head, and his brother Murray.

A Celebration of Fraser’s Life will be held at St. James Anglican Church (6351 Ranchview Drive NW, Calgary, AB), on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
