December 1, 2024 Calgary, Alberta

Douglas Blair, beloved husband of Jeanette Demers of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at the age of 83 years.

Doug was born in Calgary, AB, on October 23, 1941. He grew up in Capitol Hill and Stampede Park, where his love of racing began.

Doug accomplished much throughout his life and was particularly proud of his accomplishments in the oil and gas community. Spanning over four decades, Doug was involved with several companies and travelled across the world up to his retirement with his company, Petenco Oil Ltd.

Everyone who knew Doug was well aware of his love of thoroughbred horse racing. Starting at a young age, Doug fell in love with horses, and the track and began a journey that lasted 80 years. Doug felt like his horses were a part of his family and treated them like gold. He won several regular season races, and stake races across Canada (and in Phoenix).

Besides his loving wife, Doug is survived by his brother Ted, his sisters, Shirley and June of Calgary; and several nephews and nieces from Calgary.

Doug was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Alice Blair.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Doug’s family here.
