Obituary of Jean Ruth Geraldine Senn
August 21, 1933 – London, England
December 3, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
With immeasurable sadness, we announce the passing of Ruth "Jean" Geraldine Senn (nee King). Having lost her darling husband Norman only months ago, in June 2024, we entrust her now into his waiting arms. Wherever Jeannie went in her life, laughter followed. We have no doubt that laughter will follow her now as she is reunited with the friends she so dearly missed, Lily Smalls and Doreen Stephen, and passing only hours before her, Donna Rogalski.
Since her birth on August 21, 1933, in London, England, she has made the world a better place. Though she held many jobs, it was the things she was never paid for that defined her and brought her joy.
Her volunteer work with the Calgary Public Library, cuddling newborns in the neonatal unit at the hospital, The Mustard Seed, Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter, The Humane Society, Sheriff King Shelter, and Agape Hospice was where she gave the gift of her love and time.
Despite immigrating to Canada with Norman in 1959, family in England were always of utmost importance and she worked hard to maintain these tight bonds. Jean is predeceased by older brother Charles King, and younger brother Francis Corrick. Jean had exceptionally close relationships with her nieces Anita and Denise and nephews Frank and Dan throughout their lives. It is through her example that we have the gift of such strength of connection with family, chosen family, and friends.
Wherever both Jean and Norman went, they developed an immediate network of beautiful friends. She stubbornly leaves her ever-devoted daughters, Charlene (Meredith) and Tanya (Kevin), as well as her granddaughter, Jordan. We know it is also with a heart full of sweet memories that she leaves a loving circle of friends at Rocky Ridge Retirement Community and, of course, the second-to-none family in MacEwan Ridge Villas.
It was of utmost importance to Jean and to us, her family, to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the individuals at Rocky Ridge Retirement, Alberta Health Services and, of course, Agape Hospice, who worked tirelessly and compassionately over the past several months to make her transition as gentle as she deserved.
A celebration of life will be held in a season more conducive to the joyous, bright and warm affair that Jean has always planned for.
