Obituary of Deborah Cathy Ann Weiss

October 7, 1957 – Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

December 2, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that the family of Deborah Weiss (nee Hennessey) announce her peaceful passing, with her husband Grant and daughter Melissa by her side on Monday, December 2, 2024, at the age of 67 at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, AB.

Debbie will be lovingly remembered by her husband of twenty years, Grant, her two daughters, Melissa and Amanda (John-Ross); her two granddaughters, Georgia and Isabella; her sister Dorothy (Tommy), nephew Jason (Ashley), niece Marcie (Kyle), and stepsons, John (Lynn), Derek, and David. Debbie was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Olive (Hennessey); and her siblings, Derryl, Donna, and Dianne.

Debbie was born and raised in Charlottetown, PE. Most people probably remember Debbie from her time teaching swimming at the YMCA in Charlottetown. She also spent numerous years working in childcare, and later at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

In 2001, Debbie met the love of her life, Grant Weiss, and moved to Red Deer, AB. Debbie and Grant married in Hawaii in 2004 and had fond memories of their time in Maui. They enjoyed travelling to PEI for visits, camping and spending quality time with family and friends. Debbie worked at the Red Deer Regional Hospital as an admitting clerk in Emergency up until her retirement.

Two of the greatest loves of Debbie's life were her daughters, Melissa and Amanda. Anyone who knew Debbie knows how proud she was of her girls. She loved nothing more than spending time with her children and grandchildren. Of all the names Debbie held dear, “Grandma Debbie” was her favourite.

Despite spending much of her last six months in hospital, Debbie never lost her infectious smile. She was brave, strong, and fought hard right up until her final breath.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, the Peter Lougheed Centre and the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, AB.

A Celebration of Deborah’s Life will be held in both Alberta and Prince Edward Island at a later date.

If family and friends so desire, memorial tributes can be made to the charity of your choice.
