Obituary of Robert (Teruo) Sameshima

Robert Sameshima of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the age of 84 years, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on December 25, 1939, in Clayburn, BC, to parents, Munetoshi and Taye.
Beloved husband of Kazuko Sameshima, Robert was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his two sons, James and Mike Sameshima; James' wife, Chantelle; and his cherished grandson, Kobe Sameshima as well as his sister Aiko Legge. Robert was predeceased by his parents, Munetoshi and Taye, three brothers, Hiroshi, Muney, and Tom; and five sisters, Toshiko, Kyoko, Fusako, Laiko, and Yemiko.
Robert was a dedicated and hardworking employee of Macdonalds Consolidated for 37 years. He was also an active member of the Calgary Kotobuki Society, where he volunteered his time to help others. In his free time, Robert was an avid golfer, bowler, and biker. He loved spending time with his grandson Kobe and enjoyed playing games like Uno, War, and Othello.
One of Robert's most memorable vacations was attending his son James and daughter-in-law Chantelle’s wedding in Curaçao in July 2005. He treasured the time spent with his family and friends on the golf course, camping, or playing card games. Robert also had a deep passion for his faith and was an active local church member.
Robert Sameshima will be remembered most for his love of family and friends, golfing, camping, church, card games, biking, socializing, and being a skilled bingo caller. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to their friends and family for their love and support during this difficult time.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Reception will follow at the Calgary Japanese Community Association (2236-29 St. SW, Calgary, AB) at 2:30 p.m.
Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Sameshima’s service streamed live (link to follow) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
