Obituary of Janine Suzanne Vatcher

Janine Vatcher (nee Rasmussen) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at the age of 63 years.

Janine was born in Calgary, AB, on May 25, 1961, to Gunner Brogart Rasmussen and Gloria Joan Rasmussen (nee Fraser). She resided in Calgary for her entire life. In 1981, she married Rod Vatcher (divorced in 1998) and welcomed their son Christopher in January 1982 and daughter Meagan in November 1983.

Janine had an interest in the law and a passion for mysteries; she was an avid reader and enjoyed watching crime dramas. She followed that passion by pursuing and gaining a diploma as a Legal Secretary. She later went to work for the Government of Alberta in the Department of Child and Family Services where she met her lifelong best friend, Karen Rigsby.

Janine welcomed her first grandchild in 2011 and went on to welcome four more, for a total of five granddaughters. She loved these girls and delighted in spoiling them. Her love language was most definitely gift-giving. Although she didn’t have a lot, she always gave generously to her children and grandchildren. These girls always knew that if they were out with Grammy and Mom said no, Grammy would say yes!  Her biggest heartache was knowing that she would miss out on seeing them grow.

Janine is survived by her son Christopher Vatcher and her daughter-in-law Stacey Wade of Calgary, AB; her daughter Meagan McKeage (nee Vatcher) and her son-in-law Darren McKeage of Calgary AB; and her five granddaughters, Chase Vatcher Wade, Ryan Vatcher Wade, Elliot Vatcher Wade, Jade McKeage, and Sierra McKeage.

Janine is also survived by her one brother Craig Rasmussen of High River, AB, and her best friend Karen Rigsby of Tampa, Florida.

Janine was predeceased by her parents, Gunner Brogart Rasmussen and Gloria Joan Rasmussen (nee Fraser)

A Celebration of Janine’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, January 4, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.

Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Ms.Vatcher’s service streamed live (see link below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
