Obituary of Sharon Gayle Mittelstadt

July 16, 1943 – Regina, Saskatchewan

December 18, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Sharon Gayle Mittelstadt (nee Nessman) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at the age of 81 years.

Sharon was born in Regina, SK, on July 16, 1943, and she and her family settled in Calgary, AB, in 1951. She graduated from Sir George Williams University in Montreal with a degree in Social Work in 1965. Sharon married the love of her life Bruno Mittelstadt in 1972.

Known for her nurturing heart, Sharon dedicated her career to people most in need. She started her career in social service in the area of child welfare, working with children for several years. She went on to assist unwed mothers and eventually worked for AISH until she retired.

Sharon accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of the relationships she built with people. She was a social butterfly, always looking at life through rose-coloured glasses and seeing the best in everyone. Sharon felt closest to God and found peace while sitting on her special bench on the beach at the cabin.

Sharon had a passion for travel. Many trips were shared with her sister, brother-in-law, and loving husband, but her favourite place will always be Hawaii. After years of travel, Sharon and Bruno found a winter escape in Mesa, AZ, where they continued their adventures and made many friends. She will be most remembered for her kindness and how she brought joy to every situation.

Besides her loving husband Bruno, Sharon is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle Hannam and Derek Hannam of Calgary, AB; her two sons, Michael Mittelstadt and Ryan Mittelstadt and daughter-in-law, Natalie of Calgary, AB; and her two grandchildren, Lilly Mittelstadt and Logan Mittelstadt of Calgary, AB.

Sharon is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Pat Fortin and Terry Fortin of Edmonton, AB; her two brothers, Ron Nessman of Hornby Island, BC, and Doug Nessman and sister-in-law Robby Nessman of Red Deer, AB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Sharon was predeceased by her loving parents, Alfred and Agnes Nessman (nee Maierhoffer).

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church (2424 – 24th Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB) on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
