Obituary of Vivian Irene Prior
June 19, 1933 – Calgary, Alberta
December 22, 2024 – Diamond Valley, Alberta
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Vivian Irene Prior (nee Kilroe) at the age of 91, on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Rising Sun Long Term Care in Diamond Valley, AB.
Vivian was born on June 19, 1933, in Calgary, AB, and lived a full, loving life. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Vivian is lovingly remembered by her son, Jim Prior (Ellen Ryan); daughter, Penny Norrie; grandchildren, Jennifer Norrie (Shad Milligan) and Janelle (Jason) Wetmore; and great-grandchildren, Olivia and Jager Wetmore; her sister, Erma (Jack) Burrell; and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Vivian was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jim Prior, whom she married on November 28, 1953. Their love and devotion to each other were evident throughout their life together.
Known for her zest for life, Vivian had many passions that brought her joy. She was very active and loved to golf, she could be found at the Highwood Golf course in the Spring and Summer, and then headed South for many winters in Apache Junction, Arizona. She and Jim enjoyed their winters there and made many great friends.
Vivian’s green thumb and love of gardening were a constant source of pride, and she found relaxation tending to her flowers and plants. She also enjoyed ice skating and shopping. Vivian never missed the Calgary Stampede and would be down at the grounds multiple days to watch the Chuckwagon races, and she also looked forward to the Chinook Centre Stampede breakfast.
Vivian’s warmth, kindness, and vibrant spirit touched all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and a life well-lived. The family is grateful for the care and compassion shown to Vivian by the staff at Rising Sun Long Term Care.
Rest in peace, Vivian — a loving mom, cherished gramma, devoted sister, beloved auntie, and loyal friend. Your warmth and love touched the hearts of everyone around you. You will forever live on in our hearts, and your memory will be a beacon of comfort and joy.
