Obituary of Joseph Eugene Ternes

April 21, 1926 – Beiseker, Alberta

December 27, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Joseph “Joe” Ternes of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 27, 2024, at the age of 98 years.

Joe was born on his family farm outside of Beiseker, AB, on April 21, 1926. This farm became his legacy, where he lived and farmed until 1994. His greatest passion was farming, working hard every day, passing on endless knowledge to anyone who asked or worked alongside him. Joe and his wife Ilene moved to Calgary in 1994 after retiring and continued to have a love of the farm life, which they shared with their children and grandchildren.

Joe was easygoing, never letting anything shake his calm demeanour and steady through anything. He was easy to be around and loved to catch up with his farming friends over coffee. He took so much pride in his work, but especially his family. His beloved wife Ilene and their four children were a tremendous source of pride which grew even more as grandchildren and great-grandchildren arrived.

Joe was predeceased by his wife Ilene, his son Joe, and sisters, Isabelle (Ray) Schmaltz and Eva (Ted) deWaal. He is survived by his sister Katherine Knight (Don), daughters, Linda Tetz (Barry), Joanne Van Every (John) and Cindy Westwood (Greg), and daughter-in-law Tamara. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jay Tetz (Kylee), Callie Tetz (Thomas Aiello), Krista Van Every, Scott Van Every, Ryan Van Every (Tamika), Lindsey Westwood (Graham Venechuk), Michelle Zubick (Curtis) and Collin Westwood; and his great-grandchildren, Saidah Clark, Alivia Tetz, John Van Every, Ellie Zubick and Zoey Zubick.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses, doctors and staff on Unit 51 at the Peter Lougheed Centre for their respectful and dignified care of Joe. There are not enough words to express our thanks.

Honouring Joe’s request, there will not be a funeral service.
