She was an adored wife, loving mother, special grandmother and proud great-grandmother. Her time with us was filled with joy, good friends and happy memories. Sherry was born in Belapatfalva, a small village in Hungary on July 15, 1926 and was named Sari. In 1930, with her mother Roza and sister Margaret, they immigrated to Canada to join her father Gabor. They came to Calgary and settled in the Riverside area. After graduating from St. Mary’s Girls High School in 1944, she started working at Military District #13 as a stenographer and was employed there until she married Gordon in 1947. Sherry gave freely of her time, volunteering for several agencies until age 76. She was in the first group of volunteers for Meals-on-Wheels, and served on its board as secretary for several presidents. She was a fifty-seven year member of the Catholic Women’s League, serving as president at both Holy Name and St. Bonaventure Catholic Churches. She also co-chaired the CWL National Convention in Calgary. Sherry was friendly, cheerful and witty. She enjoyed her flower gardens, knitting, crocheting, watching sunrises and sunsets, laughter with her two sewing clubs and card group, but above all she loved her family and the happy times they spent together. Her family was her constant source of pride and joy. Sherry will be lovingly remembered by her husband Gordon; her four children, Sharon (Brent), Rob (Linda), Patti (Brian) and Keith (Wendy); her nine grandchildren, Shannon (Manny), Shawn, Kelly, Robert (Anna), Bryan, Braden, Brett, Brendan and Richard; and two great-grandchildren Emerson and Bennett.
