Condolences
To the entire Sykes family I send my deepest condolences with the passing of Mr Sykes . He was always a very special person to me . I remember him walking down 4 Street with his leather fringed coat and gloves ,every time I saw him he’d put a smile on my face! Yes, he was quite the character but that’s why I liked him so much. He’d probably be critiquing my words . Two special things I know about him were his unconditionally all encompassing love for his wife, Giselle and how much he was looking forward to his first great grandchild .
Sure enjoy reading about you. Happened since I learned about you whilst living in Calgary. You were mayor when I was born (1973). Pity that you weren't elected to Parliament in '84. Liked what you had to say about Lougheed in the unauthorized bio. We have a mutual acquaintance in the person of David Reynolds, who helped to construct Husky Tower. When I returned to it on a visit to the city in '97, I learned of your involvement, which whet my appetite to learn about certain former mayors. Rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Ian McMaster
