Obituary of Paul Albert Rankin

July 7, 1948 – Hamilton, Ontario

January 6, 2025 – Cochrane, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paul Albert Rankin, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Paul passed away peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2025, in Cochrane, AB, at the age of 76.

Paul was born on July 7, 1948, in Hamilton, ON. In 1993, he moved to Calgary, AB, where he met and married the love of his life, Cathie (née Howden), in 1994. Together, they built their dream log home on a picturesque property northwest of Cochrane, AB, where they shared countless cherished memories until 2023.

Paul’s happiest moments were spent tinkering around the farm or traveling with Cathie to attend NASCAR. His storytelling and quirky sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Paul is lovingly remembered by his wife of 30 years, Cathie; his two sons, Kris (Kristin) Rankin and Matt Rankin (Ariane Roch); and his grandsons, Quinten, Aiden, and Maxx. He also leaves behind his stepdaughters, Tammie Farion and Jodie Hebbard, along with their children, Cole, Reid, and Bryn.

Paul will be deeply missed by his sisters, Nancy (Ron) Fitzhenry and Joan (Jim) Brown, as well as his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Winnifred Rankin, and his sister, Sue.

A Celebration of Paul’s Life will be held at a later date, where his family and friends will come together to honor the remarkable life he lived and the legacy he leaves behind.
