Condolences
Frances accompanied me in 1995 to Saskatoon. I was having a solo exhibition and she went with me. We had a lovely time driving there and during the exhibition's opening. I painted a portrait of her from that trip. She is sitting in a wicker chair surrounded by paintings. When I gave her that painting, she insisted I take one of hers. She and I exchanged paintings and one of her large tulip paintings hangs in my bedroom. She remains in my memory as joyous, full of good humour and full of life. Frances was a dear friend and artist colleague of my mother, Verna Reid. They had many shared interests as artists and as I recall, they went on a art tour in Europe together. We have a a Frances Ekval painting in our home that was one of my mom’s favourite paintings. Our deepest condolences to the family on Frances’ passing.
Sorry to hear of Aunt Frances’ passing. She lived a full life. Condolences to the Ekvall family and all who loved her.
I am so sorry to hear of Frances' passing. I, first, knew her in the early 1970's. She was very intelligent and quick witted. I recall being at the Eckvall home for a social evening and she showed us a ski suit she had sewed. It was so beautifully made and I marvelled at her sewing abilities. Obviously, that was just one part of her talent. In later years, I spoke with her and she told me about her art and made me aware of an art exhibit going on in Sunnyside. Unfortunately, I missed that opportunity and I regret that. Frances was, truly, unforgettable. I am certain that her whole family was so proud of her. Glenda Kemp (formerly Wenger).
I fell in love with Frances’ art the moment I saw it. Every piece radiates such a joyful celebration of life that it feels like a gift each time I look at the ones I’m lucky enough to have in my home. Then, meeting Frances herself, I saw how her art was a direct expression of the beauty with which she lived. From what I’ve heard, her passing was as glorious as her life—a true reflection of the light she brought to the world.
Frances was my art hero, my friend willing to just sit and chat about plants, found objects , painting or to go on an adventure. I admired her energy and honesty and her chuckle. We could spend endless time examining painting/art making or city politics. A true friend. Rest peacefully and paint tulips in heaven.

Frances was a wonderful person and exceptional artist. With her father, the three Lambert brothers marrying the three Hinse sisters, I always felt close to her family. Condolences to the family. Helen Lambert
Through the years, Françoise would attend some of the art classes during Summer Series at Red Deer College. She inevitably would call me & we would arrange to meet for lunch.
May you be comforted by loving memories of a caring, talented lady. Frances was a long-time friend of my mother from the “Devon Days”. I always knew her as caring and generous. God keep you in his heart Frances.
Frances, known to me as Françoise, was the first artist I ever knew personally. Her bold and colourful pieces reflected an independent woman following her dreams. She raised a beautiful family who will miss her dearly. May she rest in peace✝️
