Obituary of Antonio Veltri
April 6, 1929 – San Giovanni in Fiore, Cosenza, Italy
January 14, 2025 – Calgary, Alberta
Antonio Veltri, beloved husband of the late Antonietta Veltri (nee Curia) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the age of 95 years. He passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side.
Antonio was born in San Giovanni in Fiore, Cosenza, Italy, on April 6, 1929. He came to Calgary in 1953 to build a better life. He married Antonietta who came on ship to Canada in January 1958 and they were married on May 24, 1958, where they spent 42 years, building a life in Canada and raising their family. Our father (Pa) worked as a carpenter building homes in Calgary, then spent 30+ years with CANA construction, where he was a part of the buildings that shaped Calgary’s skyline. He then had the pleasure of working alongside his brother-in-law Rudy Pietrovito (RIP) at Carlson Construction until his retirement. He was devoted to his faith and attended St. Michael Catholic Community for church service EVERY Sunday until he was unable to.
Nonno was very fond of his grandchildren and spent endless time with them sharing his life stories, making them laugh, and encouraging their life aspirations. He loved when they shared their moments and would comment with “Right on!” and a thumbs up or over the phone with a “Wow wee!”
Antonio is survived by his children, Rosaria and Francesco Migliarese; Biagio Veltri and Caterina Olivito-Veltri and grandchildren, Massimo Veltri and Bianca Veltri; Claudia and Giuseppe Scalise, and grandchildren, Alessia and Diego Carpintero; Salvatore and Tayler Scalise and great-grandchildren, Stella and Tinlee Scalise. He is also survived by his brother Giuseppe Veltri (Vittoria), as well as many nieces and nephews, both in Calgary and Italy. He was predeceased by his parents, Biagio Veltri and Rosaria Laratta, sister Rosina, brother Ignazio, and brother Pasquale.
