Obituary of Dennis Lloyd Downes

August 7, 1941 – Forestburg, Alberta

January 14, 2025 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we said goodbye to Dennis, a beloved husband, dad, and papa, on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, with family by his side.

Dennis was born in Forestburg, AB, on August 7, 1941. He met the love of his life, Janet, and they married in 1963, raising three wonderful children together.

Throughout his life, Dennis had a love for travel and the outdoors. He especially enjoyed camping, hiking, cross-country skiing, fishing, and biking. His passion for the game of golf was rivalled only by his loyalty to his friends and family. He loved to share his talents of winemaking, woodworking, carving, and painting with those dear to his heart.

Dennis was always there to lend a helping hand and made friends wherever he went. He took pride in helping to establish and build St. Mark’s Parish. He was a pillar of the community, bringing people together with his kindness and dedication. Dennis freely gave his time and energy to making the world around him better, always guided by a love for helping others and thoughtful attention to detail.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Janet, of 61 years, and their children, Jeff (Tanya), Sue (Kieren), and Barb (Josh). He was blessed with six grandchildren, Tyne, Brynn (Brooke), Egan, Rebecca, Emily, and Meghan; as well as a host of many close friends.

Dennis is predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Aldine; his brother, Harvey; and his sister-in-law, Carol.

Rest in peace, Dennis. You will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for your generous spirit and love of life and family.

Dennis, enjoy your next round of golf, and here’s to a hole-in-one.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
