Obituary of Marguerite Mable Berger
March 19, 1957 – Medicine Hat, Alberta
January 15, 2025 – Calgary, Alberta
Marguerite Berger passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. She was born in Medicine Hat, AB, on March 19, 1957, the third of six children born to William and Alberta Schollaardt.
Margaret married the love of her life, Klaus, in 1976, and together they had three children, Leah (Darren), Wesley (Susie) and Laura (Taylor). They moved to Airdrie, AB. In 1979, she set up a life in this community she called home. Margaret's career varied over the years, starting at Co-op and then moving to Safeway. Followed by running her own house cleaning business and concluding as an accounts payable administrator in the oil and gas industry.
Margaret's joy was completed by the arrival of nine grandchildren: Olivia, Marlon, Bennett, Arawynn, Wrenn, Eriss, Scarlett, Kase and Lennox. She found great joy in being a mother and grandmother and was deeply proud of her children and grandchildren. She showed up to everything for her family, from sporting events to school performances and award ceremonies. She was always ready to jump in on a friendly game of ice hockey or accompany her family to the zoo or park.
While raising her family, Margaret was always on the go. She was up for any race her daughter could throw at her. Her most memorable accomplishment was the Spartan race in 2014. Margaret ran her first half marathon in 2012 with her daughters at the age of 55. In her 60s, Margaret found her true love in biking. Margaret pedalled the paths of Calgary, the Rockies and British Columbia with her husband, daughter Leah and sister Catherine. In addition to Margaret's love of physical fitness, she loved gardening. Anyone who has been to her house knows the amazing oasis she built with her husband in her backyard and the many beautiful flowers planted with love. Endless hours were spent reading magazines about gardens and visiting garden centers. She had a true green thumb.
Margaret was a woman of passion and love who lived her life to the fullest. She will be most remembered for her kind heart and comforting words and for always being willing to help out anyone in need. Margaret touched so many hearts in her life and left lasting impressions on countless people. Her home was always a warm and welcoming place that many felt solace in. She encouraged you to dream big and live large through her words and actions. She will be greatly missed by all.
Margaret is also survived by her two brothers, Herman (Teryl) and Chris (Chris); her three sisters, Betty (Harry), Christine (Kim), and Catherine (Bob); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents, William and Alberta Schollaardt.
