Obituary of Marie Ellen Powell
December 18, 1928 – Toronto, Ontario
January 19, 2025 – Black Diamond, Alberta
Marie Powell (nee Hollins), beloved wife the late of Murray Gordon Powell, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the age of 96 years.
Though born in Ontario, like her husband, she came to love Alberta as her forever home. She enjoyed adventuring along the Kananaskis Country, whether driving through, hiking, or picnicking with Murray.
She spent much time golfing or performing Hawaiian dancing with the Golden Girls Company. They were her passion, and she did all this until she was no longer physically able. When she wasn’t doing either of those, she would be working on a new craft, watching a good hockey game, rodeo events, or the equestrian events.
Marie is survived by her loving children, Larry Douglas Powell (Karen Plaskett) of Southampton, ON, Janice Elizabeth Saunders (William Saunders) of High River, AB, and Karen Susan Murray of Edson, AB; her grandchildren, Christopher Powell (Sarah Scott) of Baden, ON, Michael Powell (Karleigh Buist) of Kitchener, ON, Phillip Renwick of Calgary, AB, Laura Kurth (Adam Kurth) of Carseland, AB, Heather Saunders of High River, AB, Rebecca Saunders (Travis Sandor) of High River, AB, Aaron Murray (Christy Munro) of Edson, AB, and Darcy Murray of Goose Bay, NL; and great-grandchildren, Holden Powell, Bennet Powell, Bryn Powell, Gideon Powell, Randy Kurth, Ashton Saunders, Charlie Sandor, Brooklyn Murray, Kinsley Murray and Xander Kamin. She is also survived by her sisters, Bernice Wallace, Edith Hollins, and Arlene Hollins.
Marie was predeceased by her husband Murray Gordon Powell (January 30, 2017), her father Harry Hollins, mother Johanna Hollins, sisters, Ruth Lariviere, Ruby Lariviere, and Francis Andrews; and her brothers, Richard Hollins, Kenneth Hollins, and George Hollins.

Memorial Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
