Obituary of Faye Doreen Weatherly

Faye Weatherly, beloved wife of the late James Weatherly of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the age of 95 years. Faye passed away peacefully at the Mayfair Care Centre.

Faye was born in Calgary, AB, on October 12, 1929, where she was raised and spent most of her adult life. After high school, Faye went to work for a telephone company as a phone operator. As a young lady, Faye met the love of her life, Jim Weatherly, through mutual friends. They were married on June 27, 1951, and they remained together until Jim’s passing. Jim worked for the city and later became a firefighter until his retirement.

Faye worked until the day they decided it was time for children. Mark arrived in 1957 and Carole in 1959. As the children got older, Faye worked with the school board for several years. As a homemaker, Faye was a kind and quiet woman who loved animals which led to her final job of working as a receptionist in an animal clinic until her retirement. Faye was especially fond of dogs and had several throughout her life.

Faye and Jim were avid campers, they put many miles on their vehicles, travelling across Canada all the way to the East Coast and up to Alaska and the Yukon several times. Faye spent most of her life in Calgary, however she also lived several years in Kelowna, Strathmore, and Penticton, finally returning to Calgary in August of 2018, where she lived with her family (Carole) until her health declined in March of 2022. From there she resided in the Mayfair Care Centre until her passing.

Faye is survived by her son Mark (Maureen) of Calgary, AB, and daughter Carole (Peter) Somoya of Calgary, AB. Faye has six grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of Calgary - Robyn (Peter) Nearing, Miranda Weatherly and Fiancé Matthew Halladay, great-granddaughter Emma, Christopher Somoya, Kathryn Somoya, Stephanie (Josh) Stricker, and Jennifer Somoya.

Faye was predeceased by her husband James (Jim) on April 12, 2002, at the age of 76.

In keeping with Faye’s wishes, the family held a private viewing on Jan 26, 2025. There will be no service.
