Obituary of Roy Magnus SODERBERG

June 8, 1922 – Instow, Saskatchewan June 4, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roy Magnus Soderberg, on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, just four days short of his 92nd birthday. He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Margaret in 1995 and by his grandson Andrew in 2010. Roy will be forever missed by his two daughters, Susanne (Bruce) Cuncannon and Cindy (Don) Fyvie; two grandchildren, Adam Cuncannon and Maggie Fyvie; and his three great-grandchildren, James, Ethan and Raelynn. Uncle Roy will be lovingly remembered by all of his many close family members including his brothers and sisters-in-law (Jack and Doreen Pickett, Florence and Fred Chivers, Pat and Keith Cornelius, Carolynne and Jim O’Hearn), all his ‘favourite’ nieces and nephews, and life-long family friends, in particular, Rosemary and Sid Foord. Roy was born on June 8, 1922 on the family farm near Instow, Saskatchewan. He moved to Calgary in 1947 where he met Margaret Pickett, fell in love, and married on October 7, 1950. He established R.M. Soderberg Concrete and worked for over thirty years in a business that he loved. He was a founding member of the Calgary Winter Club and had an interest in many sports especially baseball, curling and boxing. Being a good Swede, he had a love of coffee and sweets and made many good friends through his regular visits to Tim Horton’s. He had a passion for life and made all those near him feel loved and appreciated. A Celebration of Roy’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation in memory of Roy. Susanne and Cindy would like to express their deepest appreciation to all the staff of Unit 61 (Pulmonary Medicine) and Unit 47 (Palliative Care) at the Foothills Hospital for the support, compassion, and care that was given to Roy and his family. They would also like to thank each and every family member and friend for visiting with Roy during his final days. These gestures of love and friendship will never be forgotten.
