Obituary of Michael HEIMBACH

May 21, 1928 – May 9, 2014 Dr. Michael Heimbach, beloved husband of Diane, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 9, 2014. Michael was born in Winnipeg, MB on May 21, 1928. He graduated from the University of Manitoba Medical School in 1954 and did post-graduate studies at Mount Sinai Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He practiced Pediatrics in Regina and then in Calgary for more than 30 years. He touched the lives of countless young patients and their families and many medical students. He retired in 1988. He was an outdoorsman, true nature lover and was happiest fishing, hunting and hiking in the mountains. In his retirement he enjoyed painting, tennis and sometimes golf, where he developed many enduring friendships. His passion was his family, especially his five grandchildren whom he adored. He had a special way of making people smile. Michael will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, integrity and incredible sense of humor. Michael was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by Diane, his wife of 58 years, his children, Dr. Catherine Heimbach (Dr. Erv Kimak) of Calgary, Carol Heimbach (Bob Taft) of Oakville, Ontario, and James Heimbach of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lauren and Sean Kimak of Calgary and Michael, Katie and Emily Taft of Oakville and by his brother Joseph Heimbach of Winnipeg, Manitoba. He will be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law, Doreen Fielding (Paul) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, his brother-in-law, Alan Coles (Pat) of Cranbrook, B.C. as well as many nieces and nephews of whom he was very fond. Friends are invited to share memories of Michael at a gathering at the Glencoe Golf and Country Club (west on highway 8, past Elbow Valley) on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The family would like to thank Dr. Dean Ruether and staff, Dr. David Falk, for their kindness during his illness, as well as the wonderful caregivers and nurses from the Palliative Care Team, especially Nishhma and Darcia.
