Obituary of Jean Ann MCCORMICK

January 9, 1934 – Calgary, Alberta April 25, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mom and Gran, Jean Ann McCormick, on Friday, April 25, 2014 at the age of 80. A proud native Calgarian with strong Scottish roots, Jean was born to David and Janet Mackie in 1934. She attended Hillhurst Elementary and Western Canada High School and married Jim in March 1954. Jean and Jim travelled the world together during their 60 years of marriage, including many special trips to the “old country”, Great Britain, to visit family and friends. Jean was an active member of the Calgary Winter Club where she was an avid curler. She enjoyed golf, the daily crossword puzzle, reading and playing card games, especially Cribbage and Rummoli. Cherished family memories are too many to list, but include Disneyland, camping at Whispering Pines and Mount Kidd, family weddings and the birth of her treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She counted her riches in life by the success of her family. In recent years, the family has gathered at Jean and Jim’s home on Saturday mornings to catch up, share life’s accomplishments and gain valuable guidance from the family’s matriarch. She lived for that time together with those she loved. Jean is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jim, children Jim (Louise), Jo-ann (Ken) Dryden, Janice (John) Kirkland, grandchildren Jennifer (Dave Laskey), Jill (Tim) Fox, Mark, Kristi and Megan (Simon Fox) Dryden, Kate and Shelly Kirkland, and great-grandchildren Annabel and Jameson Laskey and Sarah Fox, sister Margaret (Dave) Wallace and brother Dave Mackie, extended family and many friends. She was predeceased by her niece, Susan Palmer. A Celebration of Jean’s Life will be held at Calgary Winter Club (4611-14TH STREET N.W.), on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of the ICU, Units 54 and 64 of the McCaig Tower at Foothills Medical Centre. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Discovery House Family Violence Prevention Society or Ronald McDonald House of Southern Alberta.
