Obituary of Marcel MORRISSEAU

May, 31, 1993 – Calgary, AB March, 30, 2014 – Calgary, AB Marcel Morrisseau passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the age of 20 years. Marcel was the youngest son in a family of seven. He lived his whole life in Calgary. At his birth he suffered a loss of oxygen to his brain and was diagnosed with Spastic Quadriplegia with myopia. During the first three days of his life he was placed on a respirator, the doctors told his family that he would likely not be able to breathe on his own. His family decided that his life, as it always was, in the Lord’s hands and opted to take him off the respirator. That first night was long but Marcel thrived he breathed on his own and eventually got well enough to go home to his family. He enjoyed many of the activities that his other ‘able’ bodied siblings enjoyed he went swimming, hiking, camping at pow-wows, biking, BBQ’s, and many others. He started attending Quest school at four years of age, he made crafts, enjoyed sound therapy, and made many friends, he graduated in June of 2013. In the last few months of his life his body began to fail and seemed to work against him, he suffered from pneumonia and his body steadily weakened as a result, he passed away peacefully at the Foothills hospital. Marcel is survived by his loving mother and father Ethel Stonechild and Robert Morrisseau; brother Edward Stonechild; sisters, Kelly Stonechild, Kirsten Stonechild (Robert), and Melissa Morrisseau; nieces and nephews, Jade, Maddison, Scarlet, Kane, and Maximus. Marcel was predeceased by his grandmother Caroline Stonechild and grandfather Lloyd Stonechild. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Eastside Memorial Chapel (5388 Memorial Drive N.E.) on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
