Obituary of Janet Catherine Florence ARMSTRONG

January 29, 1938 –Port Arthur, ON March 14, 2014 – Calgary, AB Janet Armstrong of Calgary passed away peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2014 at the age of 76. Janet was born and raised in Ontario and moved to Calgary in the late 1950s. She married Edward Sobstyl and raised her children in northwest Calgary. Janet was a beautiful kind-hearted woman, and a great mom who was deeply involved in her children’s activities. As a member of the Canadian Girl Guides Association, Janet had the opportunity to meet Queen Elizabeth II. She was an honourary member of the Royal Canadian Legion. She attended the University of Calgary, and worked for many years in the print industry. Janet loved her family, the Calgary Stampede, dancing, and baby ducks. Janet is survived by three children, Rick Sobstyl (Corri), Dr. Edrie Sobstyl and Sandra Leigh (Sobstyl); two granddaughters, Sydni and Sarah. She was predeceased by Edward Sobstyl, her parents Richard and Florence Armstrong and her brother Doug. For the past few years, she was especially close to Sy Boersma, who cared for her in her final illness.
