July 4, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta
Sister Anna Stauber, a Sister of Charity of St. Louis for 70 years, passed away at Agape Hospice in Calgary on July 4, 2018 just shy of her 91st birthday.
Sister Anna grew up on a farm near Success, SK, the second oldest of four children. She finished her high school in Swift Current at St. Joan of Arc Academy run by the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis. She joined the Congregation in 1945 and made her vows in 1948. After attending Teacher’s College in Moose Jaw, SK, Sister Anna taught in Radville and Swift Current, SK, Calgary, AB and Ilo, Peru. Later she was involved in a number of ministries: Religious Education Coordinator in New Westminster, BC; Home Care in Moose Jaw, SK; Pastoral Assistant in Regina, SK and Edmonton, AB; Pastoral Ministry and Native Ministry in Penticton and Oliver, BC. She retired in Calgary in 2013.
She loved her ministries and expressed that she was the one who was enriched by the many experiences and people she met. Her love for the poor grew while in Peru and it was in those years that her ability and desire to live a simple life took root. Anna had a contemplative nature, loved creation and was determined to share news of God’s love for the poor in concrete ways.
Sister Anna will be lovingly remembered by her SCSL community; her sister, Mary, of Hamilton, ON; her brother, Edward, of Success, SK; as well as her nieces and nephews.
Sister Anna was predeceased by her parents George and Anna (Winefort) and her brother, Joseph.
