Obituary of Anne Monica BRAINE
1935 – Mossend Bellshill Lanarkshire, Scotland
2014 – Airdrie, Alberta
Anne Braine, 78 years young, passed away peacefully at the Bethany Care Centre in Airdrie, Alberta on February 8, 2014.
Anne was born to Sarah and James Thornbury in Mossend, Bellshill, Lanarkshire, Scotland on September 18, 1935 and was the third eldest of 11 children. She was like a second mother to her younger siblings and grew up to become a state registered nurse in the National Health Service in Scotland. Anne worked primarily with labor and delivery and care of newborns and was in charge of the maternity wing. She came to Canada in 1959 on her first stop of a world tour where she met and fell madly in love with John Braine of Niagara Falls, Ontario. They were married on November 04, 1961. She lived in Niagara Falls with her husband where they had two daughters before moving to Winnipeg in 1967 where a son was born that same year. In 1974 the family moved west with the job market and remained in Calgary and southern Alberta to raise their family.
Anne was an avid gardener with a magical green thumb. She was a member of the garden club, always kept immaculate gardens and ‘inspecting the garden’ was a favorite activity whether at her own home or when visiting others. She was an accomplished seamstress who created beautiful projects of all kinds. She enjoyed many types of stitchery from knitting to crochet and cross-stitch. Anne was an excellent cook who passed her skills on to her children.
Anne is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, John; her daughters, Mary Rydl (husband Mike) and Haley McFarlane (husband Ken); and her son Gary Braine (wife Diana); 8 grandchildren who miss her terribly, Heather, Graeme, Sean, Grace, Daniel, Rebecca, Cassidy and Rylan; siblings, Arthur, Philomena (John), James, May (Jack), Sarah (Bobby), Helen (Karl), Kathleen (John) Alandra (Daye) and Margaret (Chris) all mourn her passing and will miss her dearly. Her sister Theresa (Derek) precedes Anne in death.
