Obituary of Mackie SHULER

SHULER, Mackie July, 31, 1923 – February 6, 2014 Our beloved Dad, “Zaida” lost his valiant fight with a sudden and fierce pneumonia on Thursday evening, February 6, 2014 at the Rockyview Hospital. He was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by daughter Sandy Shuler (Doug Foulkes); grandsons Josh, Brent (Pam Bartlett) and Ross Goldenberg; great granddaughter Aeris Goldenberg; and step grands Jacinda and Alanna Foulkes. Mackie was pre-deceased by the love of his life, Gladys Shuler in 2007, with whom he shared his everything; parents Sarah and Hirshe Shuler; and brothers John and Hymie Shuler. Mackie felt blessed with his rich, long, alert and active life, recently enjoying his 90th birthday celebrating with family and friends from coast to coast. He treasured his doting family, and most recently, his last four years with his community at Trinity Lodge. He was abundantly grateful for the great care and companionship through his widowed years from his devoted daughter, who was his pride and joy; his son-in-law Doug Foulkes; nephew Jerry Snukal; and niece Laura Shuler. Mackie was the respected family patriarch who lived his life by values of ethics, kindness, generosity, Jewishness, and care for his loved ones. This legacy he has left will long live on through his family. Heartfelt thanks for his wonderful care is extended to his long time physician, Dr. William Hall, the compassionate team of doctors and nurses on Unit #73 at the Rockyview Hospital, and the Trinity Lodge staff, especially Wilma Tallo. Funeral services will be held at the Beth Tzedec Synagogue (1325 Glenmore Trail S.W.) with burial to follow at the Erlton Cemetery (30th Avenue & Erlton Street S.W.) on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at 2:30 pm.
