Obituary of Stephen Murray GIBSON

1967 – Dannevirke, New Zealand 2014 – Cochrane, Alberta Steve beloved husband of Joan Gibson (nee Piazza), passed away on January 31, 2014 at the age of 46 years. Born on October 10, 1967 in Dannevirke, New Zealand. Son of Bruce and Lyn Gibson, brother to Ross (Yolande) and Grant (Bridgette) and husband of Joan Gibson. Steve grew up in New Zealand on a dairy farm. He was a successful rugby player through High School and beyond. Rugby brought him to Canada in 1988. He played Rugby and worked on a dairy farm until the big rigs called him back and he started driving trucks again. He met Joan in 1993 and they were married in 1995, this is around the same time his successful career in the beef industry began. Steve and Joan moved to Australia in 1999. His passion for his work grew and he became highly regarded in the cattle industry. Some of Steve’s favourite memories were of his times at Willows in Cootamundra, New South Wales. His love for Canada called him back and he and Joan made the long trip back in 2010 where he jumped into the Canadian Black Angus world with both feet. Along with his passion for cattle he had a passion for showing cutting horses. He was a very successful cutter in two hemispheres. If he wasn’t on his show horse, he was on his ranch horse with his rope fed out and his team of dogs in tow. He was a cowboy in the truest sense of the word. He rode through his life with honour, integrity, courage and courtesy. He was a caring, driven, hardworking man with a place in his heart for all the people, and animals that surrounded him every day and will be missed by many.
