Obituary of Jeanette Ida Elizabeth GOCAL

Jeanette Ida Elizabeth Gocal of Calgary, Alberta passed away peacefully on Thursday January 30, 2014 at the age of 77. She was born on September 20, 1936 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to William and Alma Lacey. She married Frank Gocal on July 15, 1967 and moved to Calgary.
Surviving are her mother Alma Lacey, sister Jackie Hoskins. Her three sons, Gregory and daughter-in-law Lara of San Diego, Darren and girlfriend, Monica of Vancouver and Jeremy and fiancé, Nicole of Calgary. Jeanette had five grandchildren who she loved dearly, Julia, Phoebe, Cade, Josephine and Madalyn.
Jeanette was a deeply devoted Catholic, and was a founding parish member of St Pius X for over 47 years. Jeanette graduated from Manitoba’s Teachers’ College beginning her teaching career at the age of 16. She continued her education at the University of Manitoba and the University of Calgary where she earned her Masters in Special Education. In Calgary she was a devoted resource teacher for the Catholic School Board for many years.
She loved to go on cruises and travel the world. Her adventures took her all over Canada, Europe, Australia, South America and the United States including Alaska and even as far as Egypt. However, the most special place for Frank and Jeanette was always Hawaii. Jeanette also enjoyed the Fine Arts, cooking, gardening and reading.
A vigil will be held at 7pm on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at St. Pius X Catholic Church (2424 – 24th Avenue N.W.) and the funeral service at 12pm on Friday, February 7, 2014.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that remembrances be made in Jeanette Gocal’s name to Brain Canada. This organization is the largest source of Neuroscience research in Canada. To donate please visit www.braincanada.ca
