Obituary of Dorothea Dot GALLEY

July 29, 1937- Montreal, Quebec January 6, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dot, beloved wife of Mike Galley of Calgary, AB. Dot passed away peacefully with her husband and boys by her side on January 6, 2014 at the age of 76. Dot grew up in St. Lambert, Quebec and lived there from 1937 to 1958. The majority of her life was spent in Two Mountains, QC, Calgary, AB, and Parksville, B.C. During her nursing career, Dot worked at the Catherine Booth and Reddy Memorial Hospitals in Montreal. Dot enjoyed sixteen years as a medical assistant for Dr. Richard Antoniuk in Calgary. Dot was all about family and lit up every time her boys or grandchildren showed up for a visit. From standing on snow banks watching her sons play hockey to watching her grandson play hockey and granddaughter play soccer. She loved playing mini-golf in Parksville with Jodi, Shannon & Jason. She was an excellent bowler and floor curler. Dot loved her time in Parksville as a member of PGOSA (Parksville Golden Oldies Sports Association). She worked with her friend, Rita to organize many events such as dances, “Burgers in the Park”, and New Year’s Eve functions. Dot volunteered in Parksville at the Legion on the membership committee, worked in the kitchen at Meals on Wheels, helped sort clothes at S.O.S. and volunteered in the nursery at Parksville Baptist Church. Her love for children was evident as she looked after children for many years in Two Mountains and in Parksville. She had a passion for the underdog and loved to help people who were challenged. This continued during her stay at Walden Heights as she would comfort other residents. Dot spent her last year at Walden Heights battling Alzheimer’s. She loved being picked up often by her husband, Mike and going for drives in the country. She especially loved Spruce Meadows where she and Mike would spend hours feeding apples and carrots to the horses. Dot was a very loving and caring person and she will be missed by all those had the privilege of meeting and getting to know her. The family would like to give special thanks to all the staff at Walden Heights and Agape Hospice. A celebration of Dot’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday January 10, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to The Alzheimer Society of Calgary, Suite 201, 222 – 58th Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB T2H 2S3, Telephone: (403)290-0110, www.alzheimercalgary.com.
