Obituary of Richard William HUNTER

Richard (“Rick”) Hunter, 57, of Okotoks and Calgary, passed away on December 18th in the arms of his love of 12 years, Leanne Hassenbach. Rick was born in Saskatchewan on June, 7, 1956, to Muriel (nee Thorimbert) and Bill Hunter. By profession, Rick was a Stone Mason and Real Estate Broker, but his passions were golf, sports, motorcycles, horses and friends. A joker extraordinaire, Rick never passed on a chance to goad his American friends and celebrate his beloved Canada. Rick lived lovingly and large, traveling and golfing his way around the world, playing internationally renowned courses, including Saint Andrews in Scotland, Emirates in Dubai, Hong Kong Golf & Country Club and various prestigious USA courses. Known for throwing world class pig roasts and parties at his and Leanne’s Triple H homestead, sharing laughter, good humor and joy with both his countless faithful friends and any new acquaintances. For ten years, Rick courageously and obstinately fought cancer, never failing in his starring role as Leanne’s Superman. In addition to his wife and mother, Rick is survived by his sister Janet; brother Robert; daughter Amanda. Rick was preceded in death by father Bill and sister Judy Keen. Rick’s family is enormously appreciative of the Unit 57, BMT and Oncology doctors and staff at Foothills Medical Centre. A Gathering will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. A Party to Celebrate Rick’s life will be announced at a later date and held in early 2014. Donations in Rick’s memory may be made to the UofC Hematology Research and Education Fund and mailed to Lori Wishart, Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Dept of Oncology (1331 29th St NW, Calgary, AB, T2N 4N2).
