Obituary of Marjorie Belle OWENS

February 3, 1944 – Calgary, AB December 2, 2013 – Calgary, AB It is with sadness we announce the passing of Marjorie Belle Owens, a loved wife, mother and grandmother on December 2, 2013 at the age of 69 years. Marjorie attended Western Canada High School and trained in nursing at the Calgary General Hospital. She went on to study public health at the University of Alberta. Over a career spanning forty years, Marjorie worked in public health in rural Alberta, Winnipeg, Vancouver and Calgary. She also worked within GI units at both Calgary General and Peter Lougheed Hospitals. She excelled at her work and was universally respected by those who worked with her. Marjorie met her husband Robin Arthur Owens in high school. They were married forty-five years and had one son, Jacob Benson Owens. Marjorie had a positive influence on everyone she met. Principled, pragmatic, trustworthy and wise, she was the reason her family enjoyed happiness and success. She loved to travel and was never happier than when in the navigator’s seat on a road trip. She and Robin had the good fortune to travel the world. It was when returning from their most recent trip that signs of the cancer that took her life first appeared. Marjorie will be greatly missed by her husband and son, by Benson’s partner Andrea and their son Tate Owens and Andrea’s daughter Copelan. Marjorie is also survived by her sister Sylvia Ann Fleming (Bob); nephew Gregory Fleming (Jennifer); niece Susan Severyn (Darryn); and by grandnieces and grandnephews, Claire and Evan Fleming and Owen and Caitlin Severyn.
