Obituary of Gerald Morris Gerry HILTON
HILTON, Gerald Morris “Gerry”
December 7, 1936 – Calgary, AB
December 2, 2013 – Calgary, AB
Sadly, we announce the passing of Gerald Morris Hilton on December 2, 2013 at the age of 76 years.
Gerry arrived in Calgary, AB on December 7, 1936 when it was still small enough for young boys to have big adventures.
Gerry’s memory is lovingly cherished by Jane, his wife of 31 years; step-children James and Shelly; step-grandchildren, Owen and Sam. He was favourite uncle of Charles (Bonnie), Alan (Darlene), Ronnie and John (Natalie) and grand nieces and nephews Robbie, Kate, Geoffrey, Emily, Charlotte, and Aidan.
Gerry was a member in good standing of the-over-the-hill gang who figured prominently in those early adventures.
Gerry spent his working days as a heavy-duty mechanic working all over Alberta, British Columbia, the Yukon and Northwest Territories, until an accident brought that to an abrupt end. Even so, he remained a genius at building things, fixing things and making something out of nothing. Gerry lived valiantly with pain for the rest of his life but managed to carry on with new adventures and projects, mastering anything that took his fancy. In later life he took up pen and ink drawing and water-colour painting which brought him much satisfaction and necessitated photo expeditions into nature for inspiration.
Gerry’s kind nature, free spirit and sense of the absurd endeared him to everyone he met. Gerry had a special bond with grandson Owen whom he taught to make Labrador tea, throw an atlatl and play chess among things.
Gerry was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Bessie Hilton, formerly of England and his big brother, John and sister-in-law, Mary.
A special thank you goes to the staff on Unit 23 at PLC for their thoughtfulness and compassion at a difficult time.
As per Gerry’s wishes no formal services will be held a Memorial service will be held at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded through .
