April 5, 1929 – November 21, 2013 Marjorie (Marnie) Nora Younger (nee Dandy) passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 21, 2013 in her 85th year. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years, Andrew Younger and sister Elizabeth Caryle. Marnie is survived by her three sons, David (Campbell River, B.C.), Stuart (Linda) (Surrey, B.C.), and Brian (Calgary); grandchildren, Brett, Thomas and Cameron and many nieces, nephews and friends. Marnie was born in Anyox, BC and spent most of her early life in Vernon, B.C. As a child she enjoyed riding horses and loved her dogs. After completing high school and working briefly in the banking industry, she embarked on a “trip around the world”. She made it as far as California where she met the love of her life, Andy. They married in 1952, and spent the next 11 years living in various cities throughout North America including Toronto, Rumson, N.J, Denver, Calgary and Taylor, B.C. Eventually settling in Calgary in 1963, Marnie became very involved in the dog community. Her love of dogs led her to start breeding golden retrievers under the name of Tweed Kennels. She also started a dog obedience school, Tweed Obedience School and became known for her Golden’s. Marnie was a devoted and dedicated member of both the Calgary and Canadian Kennel Club’s and achieved the distinction of becoming a Life Member of the Canadian Kennel Club in 2003. She was also a founding member of the Wildrose Hunting Dog Club. Whether it was working with or caring for her many dogs and cats or feeding the local birds, Marnie had a great compassion for helping animals. She particularly enjoyed watching the wildlife everyday from her kitchen window. Marnie will be dearly missed by family, friends and especially her two dogs Riley and Lacey.
