Obituary of John C. MORGAN

November 6, 1926 – November 4, 2013 “A Long and Useful Life” John passed away peacefully at home on November 4th, 2013. John completed his medical degree at Queens University in 1950. He then practiced as a general practitioner in Alert Bay, BC where he met and married his first wife, Beatrice. His cardiology training was undertaken at John’s Hopkins in Baltimore. He then moved the family to Calgary where he commenced practice as the first cardiologist in Southern Alberta. John and Dr. George Miller commenced the Cardiovascular Surgery Program in Southern Alberta. In 1976 John and Dr. Don Meldrum co-founded Cardiology Consultants (now Total Cardiology) which presently has 22 Cardiologists. He semi-retired from practice in 1998 and accepted a position as chairman of the former Calgary Regional Health Authority and subsequently became an elected Board member. His other career accomplishments and awards are too numerous to mention. He was greatly respected by the medical community who viewed his patient care as legendary. John’s patients admired him for his skill and compassion. John was predeceased by his first wife, Beatrice, in 1987. He met and married his second wife, Maureen, in 1989. John is survived by Maureen and his nine children: Wilfred (Brenda); Sandra (Ken); Margaret (Bradley); John David (Jacquie); Richard; Mary (Steve); Michele (Michelle); Eryn (Desirie) and Adam (David); as well as twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Peter and his wife Joy. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Sunday, November 10, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Christ Church (3602 – 8th Street S.W.) on Monday, November 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
