Obituary of Randall Randy BOUCHER

March 28, 1953 – Stettler, Alberta April 27, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta Born March 28, 1953 in Stettler, Alberta to Robert and Doreen Boucher, Randy was raised in Red Deer, Alberta. His life was full with sports, school, outdoor activities, road trips, tinkering in the garage and camping trips (especially with the Fix’s). Upon graduating from Camielle J. Lerouge High School in 1972. Randy continued to pursue these interest as well as being curious about new ideas/places/roads and driving “twisties”. Randy met his future wife Dawn when he decided to enroll in post-secondary education at Mount Royal College. He studied for a time in the Faculty of Kinesiology before switching to SAIT. Here he obtained a ticket in Small Engine Mechanics which allowed him to work with his dad for a time at B’s Service Station in Windermere, BC. Randy’s continued curiosity led him back to Red Deer College, this time to explore education courses. He completed his B.Ed. degree at the University of Calgary in 1980. Dawn and Randy wed in 1979, setting up home in Calgary. Life was interesting and invigorating, living in basement suites, sharing one car, “fine” dining at Peter’s Drive-in, splurging for pizza at Nick’s Steak House, hunting for antiques and, of course, flogging the golf ball at Redwood Meadows. They bought their first home in 1982, it was a sweet 700 square foot house on a beautiful corner lot in N.W. Calgary. On Randy’s birthday in 1992 they moved into a villa in Bow Landing. It was quite the change of scenery and brought much delight watching seasons change on the Bow River. Randy’s tool kits, generator and other tinkering tools all fit into their large garage. He continued to work on his motorcycle and cars, making them ready for trips with friends, as well as with Dawn. Road trips were sometimes short, to Red Deer or Sundre, or longer treks to the lakes of Montana, BC, Arizona and Nevada. Life was filled not only with work but with friends, family gatherings, golf at Valley and Lynx Ridge’s as well as continued explorations of Randy’s interests. Randy’s teaching career spanned 28 years and he was fortunate to spend it teaching within the Rocky View School Division. He was first with Muriel Clayton School in Airdrie teaching math and science to grades four, five and six. George McDougall Junior High was his second stop and he stayed as it transitioned to a high school. In 1995, Randy moved to Springbank High School where he focused on Math with grade nine and ten students. His love for teaching continued after he retired though tutoring numerous students until last fall. Randy’s legacy is his ability to demonstrate the intricate connection of math and science to life through not only the subject but also to a students commitment to achievement in everything they pursue. Post retirement brought a few years of happiness in travel, continued tinkering and the purchase of a home in Sun City West that Randy fixed up to perfection. Three happy but short years allowed for winters of golf, cycling, hiking, spending wonderful times with Greg and Merrilyn and making new friends. Time was short though and Randy’s shortness of breath brought the news of pulmonary fibrosis. Special angels, like niece Anita and others too numerous to mention, surrounded Randy at this time. Randy was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Doreen (Penosky) Boucher; and his brother James. Randy will be fondly remembered by his loving wife of thirty-eight years, Dawn (Demers); a brother, Tom (Maureen); a niece, Anita; a sister-in-law Lynn; a special aunt and uncle, Shirley and Lowell Holm; Merrilyn and Greg Roth; a brother-in-law David; a uncle Jim Thompson from B.C., and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends from the Botha, Stettler and Calgary areas. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY , on Friday, May 4, at 2:30 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the 47 Squire Baker’s Lane, Markham, Ontario L3P 3G8 (905-294-7645). Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
